Overview

The Legal Support Services program at Howard High School of Technology provides comprehensive instruction in various areas, including Legal Services, Law Enforcement Services, Public Safety Telecommunications, Correction Services, Security and Protective Services, and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI). The curriculum also covers topics related to human services, aiming to prepare students for entry into one of the many professions within the legal industry. Through a combination of extensive theoretical study, practical applications, and external learning activities—such as job shadowing, field trips, internships, and cooperative workplace assignments—students develop the skills needed to become productive legal support service workers upon graduation. A key focus of the program is to help students attain national certifications, which can significantly enhance their employment opportunities.

The curriculum is designed to provide students with the skills and certifications needed to succeed in a variety of legal and public safety roles.

Employment opportunities available with senior year co-op and after graduation:

Telecommunications specialist, intake clerk, office clerk, legal office receptionist, loss prevention officer, customer service representative, patrol officer

 

Employment opportunities requiring a two or four year degree and/or additional education after graduation:

Judicial case manager, probation and parole officer, legal secretary, paralegal, law clerk, detective, criminal prosecutor, defense attorney, border patrol agent, FBI agent, US marshal, social worker

 

Earning Potential Range:

$42,159 to $80,000, depending on post-secondary education, experience, and locality.
