General Admissions
Is there a tuition fee for attending?
No. Howard, Delcastle, Hodgson, and St. Georges are public high schools. There is no tuition.
Who can apply for admission?
Students must live within one of the following New Castle County school districts: Appoquinimink, Brandywine, Christina, Colonial, or Red Clay.
- 9th grade: Any 8th-grade student residing in an eligible district may apply during the School Choice window.
- 10th grade: Transfer students residing in eligible districts may apply if space is available in select programs.
Your child must be registered in their feeder school before completing the online School Choice application. If you are registering your child in a Delaware public school for the first time, please click this link to complete the Delaware standard registration form.
How are students selected?
Selection is based on academic performance (grades and attendance) and available space in the selected program. We try to honor first-choice selections but may offer second or third choices if necessary.
Do promotion requirements affect admission?
Yes. Admission is provisional until the student meets promotion requirements in their home district, including passing English and at least one core academic subject (Math, Science, or Social Studies).

What is considered a completed application (9th grade)?
- Online application form
- Final 7th-grade report card
- Most recent 8th-grade report card with attendance
- Discipline record for 7th and 8th grades (choose one):
- Report from school system (e.g., eSchool)
- Official letter on school letterhead
- Student Data Sheet
- Student must be registered in their feeder school within an eligible district before completing the application.
What is required for 10th grade applicants?
- Official 9th-grade report card (must include name & attendance)

Can I submit more than one application?
No. Only one application per student is accepted.
Admissions Timeline
When can I apply?
- 9th grade: Apply through SchoolChoiceDE.org from November to January.
- 10th grade: A separate application opens in May, for eligible programs only.
When are admissions decisions released?
- 9th grade: Early March
- 10th grade: Mid-summer
Are admissions first-come, first-served?
No. All applications submitted by the deadline are considered equally.
School Life
Are transportation services provided?
Yes, free countywide transportation is provided, including buses for athletics and after-school activities.
Are sports and extracurriculars offered?
Yes. All schools offer sports, clubs, honor societies, and activities like drama, yearbook, and student government. Students also join national career organizations tied to their programs.
Is Driver Education available?
Yes. All 10th-grade students receive Driver Education during the school day.
How many career programs are available?
There are currently 41 career programs across six categories. Note that availability may vary by school and year.
After Graduation
Can VoTech graduates go to college?
Yes. Over 80% of our students continue on to trade schools, colleges, universities, or apprenticeships.
