Overview

The HVAC program teaches students how to install, repair, and maintain heating and cooling systems. These systems keep homes, schools, and other buildings comfortable year-round. Students learn to connect piping and wiring, follow safety rules, and use tools and machines common in the HVAC field.

 

This program is a good fit for students who like working with their hands and solving problems. Locally, demand for qualified HVAC technicians is strong, and graduates have excellent job opportunities.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to install and repair heating and cooling systems

  • How to run refrigerant piping and electrical wiring

  • How to use temperature controls, monitoring devices, and safety tools

  • How to read and interpret blueprints, design specs, and electrical schematics

  • How to follow EPA refrigerant laws

  • How to prepare for apprenticeships and further training

Hands-On Experience

Students gain hands-on experience with tools, equipment, and real systems. They work on projects that simulate job-site conditions, helping them develop the technical and problem-solving skills needed in the field.

During senior year or right after graduation:

  • Evaporative-cooler installer

  • Furnace installer

  • Oil burner installer and service

With apprenticeship training after graduation:

  • HVAC service technician

  • Refrigeration mechanic

  • Building automation technician

  • Air & hydronic balancing technician

  • Geothermal or heat pump technician

  • Refrigeration unit repairer

With two years of additional training:

  • Indoor air quality inspector

Earning Potential Range:

Students in this field can earn between $13.25 and $35 an hour, depending on the role and experience.
