Chemical Lab Technology

Overview

The Chemical Laboratory Technology program teaches students how to work in a science lab. Students learn how to follow safety rules, use lab tools, and do basic chemistry experiments. They practice measuring, mixing, and testing chemicals. Students also learn to keep track of supplies, read data, and explain their results through graphs, writing, and speaking.

This program is great for students who enjoy science, paying attention to detail, and solving problems. Students may work in labs with chemists and engineers, helping to make or test products. This program also prepares students for college studies in science or chemistry.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to use lab tools and follow lab safety rules
  • How to mix and measure chemicals for experiments
  • How to do basic chemistry math (stoichiometry)
  • How to run tests and use lab equipment
  • How to write lab reports and share results
  • How to keep track of supplies and chemicals

Hands-On Experience

Students get hands-on practice in a real lab setting. They learn how to safely handle chemicals, record their results, and use special tools. The program includes lab projects and opportunities to earn college credit through DelTech or other colleges.

Certification

Students who complete the program with at least a B average may earn:

  • 10 college credits from DelTech for Chemical Principles 150 and 151

Employment Opportunities

Jobs available during senior year or right after graduation:

  • Lab assistant in chemical labs, factories, or hospitals

Jobs that may require 2–4 years of college after graduation:

  • Chemical lab technician
  • Environmental technician
  • Chemical processor
  • Crime scene assistant
  • Vet technician
  • Forensic scientist
  • Chemist
