The New Castle County Vocational Technical School District sponsors a Summer Career Camp for 6th and 7th grade students who are interested in exploring careers through fun, hands-on learning activities. The 4-day sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All camp programs are led by qualified Vo-Tech instructors. Bus transportation is provided for all campers. Camp cost is $120 per camper. Camp cost is $60 for those students verified as participants in the free & reduced lunch program. Camps are for students living in New Castle County. Daily school bus transportation is included in the camp fee. Customized routes throughout New Castle County neighborhoods are designed to pick-up and drop-off campers as close to their homes as possible. Bus pick-ups begin approximately one hour before camp opens, and returns are approximately within one hour of camp closing. Routes are designed after all campers have registered. Vo-Tech Summer Career Camp Applications were mailed to all 6th and 7th grade public school students who live in New Castle County on March 18, 2010. Applications are also available at all non-public middle schools in New Castle County. You can download and print an application (see instructions below) or receive an application by calling the NCC Vo-Tech School District at 302-995-8035. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis and programs fill quickly. Application deadline for the 2010 camp is April 16. On the application, campers are asked to choose program areas in order of preference. Every attempt is made to give applicants their first choice. Camp for Students NOW in 6th Grade
June 28 to July 1 @ St. Georges Technical High School
(choose from career camp choices listed below) 6-a Batteries Included! – Campers will make a fully movable electronic vehicle complete with circuits, wires and soldering. Oh yes, and batteries are included. 6-b Eco Camp – Campers will explore St. Georges through the eyes of an environmental scientist, surveying the organisms living in our campus woodland and wetland areas and conducting soil and water quality tests. Campers will also draw a wildlife friendly residential landscape design, build a nest box, and plant different vegetation to take home. (Dress for outdoor activities.) 6-c Made in USA –Campers will create products using skills and tools from Carpentry, Electrical Trades, HVAC, and Welding. Campers will rotate through a new skill area each day, making items out of materials and using tools specific to each area. 6-d Mind Your Own Business – In an economy crunch, why not be your own boss – start your own business? Campers will get a great start developing ideas for their own small company complete with fun sales flyers and hot commercial slogans….Priceless!
6-e Pit Stop – VROOM - Cars, cars, and more cars! What makes cars go? How are they made? We'll not only show you, we will build a small car that you can design, race, and keep! 6-f Rescue Me – Campers will explore different health fields through a mixed week of fun activities learning first aid, emergency medical response techniques, how to splint and wrap arms/legs for mobility, and how to get the most from your muscle.
6-g Say "Cheese," Please! – Campers will learn how experts get that Hollywood smile by making models, impressions, and splints. They will create a replica of their own teeth, and learn about how to shine up the pearly whites. 6-h Super Nanny – Early Childhood Education is NOT babysitting. Campers will explore activities that help pre-schoolers develop. Campers interested in teaching, camp counseling, and even child health careers will love this one, including the infant/child CPR skills. 6-i Top Chefs – Are you the next Jamie Oliver, Guy Fieri, or Sunny Anderson? Don't watch cooking on TV, do it yourself! Campers will discover the joys of great cooking and baking, and best of all – get to EAT their projects! ..................................................................................................................... July 12 to 15 @ Howard High School of Technology
(choose from career camp choices listed below) 7-a CSI: Howard – Campers will explore a variety of careers from crime scene investigation to Police Academy training. Activities include fingerprinting and live demonstrations from police and rescue squads. 7-b Made in USA – Campers will create products using skills they learn in carpentry, working with wood and tools to construct their own take-home projects. 7-c Mind Your Own Business – In an economy crunch, why not be your own boss – start your own business? Campers will get a great start developing ideas for their own small company complete with fun sales flyers and hot commercial slogans….Priceless! 7-d New Castle County Choppers – Campers will explore the inner workings of small gasoline and motorcycle systems. Yeah!

Blood pressure cuffs, medical charts, vital signs – it's all here. 7-g Structural Steel Detailing – Campers will construct and complete structural steel building images using state-of-the-art modeling software. Campers will take home blueprints of their buildings. 7-h Top Chefs – Are you the next Jamie Oliver, Guy Fieri, or Sunny Anderson? Don't watch cooking on TV, do it yourself! Campers will discover the joys of great cooking and baking, and best of all – get to EAT their projects! 7-i Undercover Computers – Campers will learn about the insides of a computer - what makes computers work, computer parts and construction, setting up network systems, and using software applications.
