How To Obtain an Application

Applications are mailed after November 15th to all 8th grade public school students who live in New Castle County. Applications are also available upon request from the guidance offices of any public, private, and parochial middle, and high schools throughout New Castle County, from any of the vo-tech high schools, or by calling the NCC Vo-Tech School District Office of Admissions (302-995-8035).

Admissions Process/Timeline

Approximately 1,250 students are offered enrollment to attend a New Castle County Vo-Tech high school each year.

Applications should be submitted to your school guidance counselor, who will forward it along with supplementary information and records to the Vo-Tech Office of Admissions.

Students are encouraged to submit completed applications to their school counselors by December 15.

Applications submitted to counselors are then forwarded to the Vo-Tech Office of Admissions by January 9.

Ninth grade students are encourgaed to submit completed applications to their school counselors by April 2.

Ninth grade applications submitted to counselors are then forwarded to the Vo-Tech Office of Admissions by April 27.

The Vo-Tech Office of Admissions WILL CONTINUE to consider applications received any time during the school year or during the summer months; however, applications submitted by January 9 do receive primary consideration.

Applications are reviewed by admissions counselors at Delcastle, Hodgson, Howard, and St. Georges vo-tech high schools between January and March.  Grades, attendance, student conduct, and the written essay are all considered important criteria when reviewing applications for admission.

Admissions Notification

The NCC Vo-Tech Admissions policy is to provide as many students as possible the opportunity to attend.  Safety considerations in the schools' career labs and available classroom space limit the number of students who can be accommodated each year.

Eighth grade students who are selected for admission to Delcastle, Hodgson, Howard, or St. Georges vo-tech high schools will receive a letter before March 15.  Students must verify their acceptance by filing a Student Registration Form within two weeks of their notification.  All admissions acceptances are "provisional" until the student is considered promoted.

  * (See Delaware Promotion Requirements)

Students who are not offered admission will receive a letter before March 15.  These students may be given the opportunity for reconsideration if openings occur.

 * (See Applicant Reconsideration information)

 Ninth grade students will receive notification of admission status by June 1.

Applicant Reconsideration

Some students who are offered admission to a vo-tech high school may not be able to accept.  This will create a small number of openings for students who originally were not offered admission.

If the applicant can demonstrate improvement in his/her progress during the remainder of the school year, he/she may be reconsidered for assignment.

Students who wish to be reconsidered should submit any indicator of improvement, such as a copy of his/her 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th marking period report card, to the Office of Admissions, NCC Vo-Tech School District, 1417 Newport Road, Wilmington, DE 19804.

As openings occur, the Office of Admissions will notify any student who, upon reconsideration, is selected for admission.

Delaware Promotion Requirements

Admission assignment for all eighth-grade students is provisional until receipt of the student's final eighth-grade report card.  Students must meet their present school district's requirements for promotion (excluding any district DSTP component) in order to attend an NCC vo-tech high school.

Any eighth-grade student who is offered admission but scores at Level I on the Delaware State Testing Program (DSTP) taken in March must, according to state law, attend a DSTP summer program and retake the state tests in order to remain eligible to attend the vo-tech school.  DSTP summer school is offered through the student's present school district.

Eighth-grade students who are offered admission but fail to meet their school district and state requirements for promotion are not eligible to attend a vo-tech high school.
