Program Description

This program will prepare students to have an in-depth knowledge of the fast-paced operation and management of retail technology systems. With the addition of sufficient on-the-job training, students will be prepared to move into independent retail functions and first-line supervision of retail departments or other segments. Instruction will also include retail-related communication and computer based inventory systems, and will focus on the general processes and techniques of direct wholesale and retail buying operations.

Plans for the program include a school based merchandising lab where students will put their classroom training into use and learn to be successful and to advance in best-practice, high performance companies. Students will also be prepared to apply for National Certification in Customer Service, sponsored by the National Retail Federation, the world's largest retail trade association. Graduates can use this certification to assess their knowledge and promote their professionalism. Certifications help to build a committed, professional workforce and raise image and opportunity in sales and service careers.

The objective of the Retail Career Technology program is to produce a qualified entry-level employee capable of moving up the career ladder in many companies in the sales and service industries.
