Program Description
Pre-Professional Nursing Studies provides an option for those students interested in performing patient care to challenge themselves on a higher level, providing them with additional tools in preparation for post-secondary education. While earning their Certified Nursing Assistant credential, these students will also have the chance to study advanced courses that will promote a seamless entrance to such post-secondary and college programs as Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Pharmacist, Physical Therapist and other health disciplines.
Students are expected to demonstrate theoretical knowledge and practical application of anatomy and physiology, infection control, body mechanics and promoting mobility, privacy laws, patient care principles, pathophysiology, pharmacology, nutrition, microbiology, and therapeutic communication. A clinical component of at least 75 hours in community healthcare settings including long term care is an integral part of this course.
