Administrative assistants perform a variety of administrative, office support, and clerical duties that are necessary to run and maintain organizations efficiently. They schedule appointments, give information to callers, organize and maintain files, and route mail. Their duties include complex tasks such as answering letters, doing research, and preparing statistical reports. They facilitate communication by preparing letters, memoranda, email, and other types of business correspondence.
Technological advances in business and industry have created the need for employees with specialized skills in the area of information processing. Business Technology provides instruction in the use of computers and other electronic equipment and prepares students in the related areas of accounting, finance, communications, and management.
Graduates of the program are skilled in Microsoft Office applications, and working toward Microsoft MOUS Certification is encouraged. They are able to earn college credit through Tech Prep and articulated agreements with area colleges.
