Program Description
This program prepares individuals, under the supervision of a sports medicine professional, to create injury prevention protocols, to recognize sports/work related injuries, to perform 1st aid techniques in the management of injury, and to assist in the implementation of physical therapy treatment plans.
It includes instruction in applied anatomy and physiology, applied kinesiology, basic neurology and orthopedics, principles and procedures of sports medicine, wound and injury care, therapeutic modalities, working with orthotics and prostheses, psychosocial aspects of healthcare, documentation skills, and personal and professional ethics.
Training in this area will prepare graduates to work as physical therapy aides, but will also serve as a foundation for postsecondary study leading to positions as Physical Therapy Assistants, Athletic Training, and other Allied Health professions.
