Physical & Earth Science (4200; Special Ed 4110) is a laboratory science aligned with Delaware State Standards and requires mastery of scientific inquiry, and selected physics, chemistry, and Earth/space science knowledge and skills. Physical & Earth Science is the entry course for the NCCVT science sequence and is intended for all freshmen. Successful completion of Physical Science can be used to meet the State graduation requirement.
Biology (4300; Special Ed 4120) is a laboratory science aligned with Delaware State Standards and requires mastery of scientific inquiry, the nature of science, evolution, cell theory, bio molecules and their interactions, and genetics. Biology is intended as a sophomore course and is designed to follow successful completion of Physical Science. (Freshmen may not be scheduled into Biology unless they request the opportunity to take and have passed the Physical Science end-of-course exam.) Successful completion of Biology is the state graduation requirement.
Integrated Science (4400; Special Ed 4170) is a laboratory science aligned with Delaware State Standards and requires mastery of scientific inquiry, physical laws of motion, forces, astronomy, and ecology knowledge and skills. Successful completion of Integrated Science can be used to complete the State graduation requirement for science and prepares students for the 11th grade DSTP and further study in the sciences. Integrated Science is intended as a junior course and is designed to follow successful completion of Biology.
Chemistry (4500) is a laboratory science that requires mastery of knowledge and skills related to characteristics of inorganic forms of matter and the changes that matter undergoes, as well as mastery of high level inquiry / problem-solving skills. Only students interested in pursuing post-secondary education in the areas of science, engineering, or health-related fields should enroll in this course. Prerequisite: Completion of Integrated Math III and Biology with grades of "B" or better. Must pass the most recent DSTP tests (10th grade).
Physics (4600) is a laboratory science that requires mastery of knowledge and skills related to the relationships between matter and energy, as well as mastery of high-level inquiry/problem-solving skills. Only students interested in pursuing post-secondary education in the areas of science, engineering, or health-related fields should enroll in this course. Prerequisite: Completion of Integrated Math III and Biology with grades of "B" or better. Must pass the most recent DSTP tests (10th grade).
ELECTIVE COURSE
(This course cannot be used as a substitute for the three (3) state-recommended laboratory science graduation credit requirements for Science) [See above]
Environmental Science (4700) is a laboratory science aligned with Delaware State Standards and requires mastery of scientific inquiry, earth science, and ecology knowledge and skills. Environmental Science is intended for SENIORS only who have completed State graduation requirements and are interested in a fourth credit in science. *Prerequisite: Successful completion of the three (3) state-recommended laboratory sciences [see above].
