 St. Georges at Full Capacity
With Four Grades, just over 1,000 Students

St. Georges Technical High School begins the 2009-2010 school year with all four grades for the first time since opening its doors in 2006. With just over 1,000 students in grades nine through twelve, this is the first year the school has a senior class. "Our seniors will always be the first at everything at St. Georges," said school principal Terri Villa. "It is exciting to see them begin their final year after opening the school with us back in August of 2006. They are participating in co-operative employment, planning for college and jobs, and ordering graduation announcements," she said. As a result of expansion at St. Georges, the NCC Vo-Tech School District has its highest student enrollment ever at 4,635 students, with all four high schools operating at capacity.

 Annual Vo-Tech Open House
 Set for Sunday, November 15

All four NCC Vo-Tech High Schools will host middle school students and their parents for the annual Open House Sunday, November 15. These afternoon events open career and academic classrooms to prospective students and the community at large to experience first hand what a vo-tech education has to offer. Current vo-tech students will be performing live demonstrations of their skills, and instructors will be available to answer questions. Howard and Delcastle will be open from 12 noon until 3:00 p.m.; Hodgson and St. Georges will be open from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Come visit any or all four! Invite a prospective student, friend, potential business partner, or alumnus.

 Looking for Co-Op Placement Sites

Co-operative education is the capstone experience for seniors who have learned skills in their career program of study and put those skills to work in businesses across New Castle County during the school day. During this economic recession, it is becoming more of a challenge to retain existing and identify new co-op placement opportunities for our vo-tech students. If you have a contact with any local business or company that may be interested in hiring a vo-tech co-op student or may consider providing job-shadowing or practicum experiences for our students, please contact the following school coordinators:

Vince Lofink at Howard High School of Technology,
571-5410 (vlofink@nccvt.k12.de.us)
